Social media outlets are becoming essential for academia nowadays, not just for the promotion of research but for research development as well. In this talk, we first provide an overview of the top picks for the social media newbies and argue that if used well, these platforms will allow academics to digest more content, more quickly, and more efficiently. We emphasis how to use social media in a way that enriches academic working life, but in a way that also provides added value.
