講   題:Investigating Cancer Mechanisms : Mechanical and Chemical Interactions in Tumor Development

摘   要:
    The development of mechano-chemical tumor models is central to elucidating how mechanical interactions and biochemical reactions collaboratively shape tumor growth dynamics. Mechanical interactions within cellular structures generate stress responses, whereas biochemical reactions involve diverse chemical species, such as those supplying nutrients to tumors. In this presentation, I will initially outline our approach to constructing tumor models using energetic variational methods, highlighting numerical simulations in both sharp interface and diffuse interface formulations. Subsequently, I will discuss applications of these models in studying brain tumors, emphasizing the function of the mechanically gated ion channel PIEZO1. PIEZO1 plays a critical role in converting mechanical signals into biochemical responses within the tumor microenvironment. By integrating experimental data, we aim to clarify the influence of PIEZO1 on brain tumor progression. Additionally, considering the gel-based environment used in tumor experiments, including breast cancer, I will present our construction and simulation of an innovative elastic tumor model. Such elastic gels mimic the physiological stiffness and extracellular matrix properties of breast tissue, providing a more realistic platform to investigate tumor mechanics and biochemical interactions, ultimately offering deeper insights into the interconnected processes driving tumor growth.
